GRATITUDE 

As this year wraps up, we have so much to reflect on. I am so grateful to this amazing community of teachers, students and parents. This year Eagleton students have shown incredible growth in both reading and math. They have developed social emotional skills that will set them up for future success. The power of 3 has come to life and we hope you can see it at home too. Our kids have gotten to go on many field trips, had several special assemblies and really grown as a cohesive community of learners. Thank you for all your support throughout the year.

TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK 

The week of May 6-10 is a special week to honor our teachers and support staff. Eagleton teachers are some of the best in the city. They care so much for our students, work so hard to make sure everyone gets what they need and give of themselves each and every day. We will be celebrating our wonderful teachers all through the week with special treats. Perhaps you might like to do something special for the incredible Eagleton teachers during this week also. Get creative and see what your kids might like to do for their teachers. 

BULLYING PREVENTION AND EDUCATION 

We are very proud of the work we did this year to improve the climate and reduce bullying at Eagleton. We were fortunate to receive funds from the state to support anti-bullying efforts. We are able to use these funds to pay for Mr. Simmons and a great curriculum to teach strategies to deal with bullying issues. We received the Anti-bullying grant again from the state and will be able to continue these efforts for another 3 years! Please let us know if you would like to get involved. We are always looking for parents to support our efforts to teach our students positive ways to deal with conflict. 

SUMMER ACTIVITIES- "MY DENVER CARD" 

Summer is right around the corner. We are lucky to live in a great city with lots to do. Take advantage of the amazing parks all around- the amazing playground at Paco Sanchez, Barnum pool and rec center, Rude rec center, Sloan's Lake and more. Help your children sign up for "My Denver Card" at any recreation center in Denver. "My Denver Card" provides all kids (ages 5-18) in Denver free access to Denver recreation centers, pools and cultural activities.

GRATITUD 

A medida que este año concluye, tenemos mucho en que reflexionar. Estoy muy agradecida con esta increíble comunidad de maestros, estudiantes y padres. Este año, los estudiantes de Eagleton han mostrado un increíble crecimiento tanto en lectura como en matemáticas. Han desarrollado habilidades socioemocionales que los prepararán para un futuro exitoso. El poder de los 3 ha cobrado vida y esperamos que pueda verlo en casa también. THANK YOU EAGLETON COMMUNITY 

It is with mixed emotions that I have announced my resignation as principal for the 2019-2020 school year. I have consulted with district leaders and determined that it is the right time to bring on a new principal to lead Eagleton. I will finish this school year and ensure that everything is set up for success for the next leader of Eagleton. 

I have loved serving this community as a teacher, assistant principal and principal over the last 14 years. It has been my honor and privilege to advocate for and support the Eagleton community. I am proud of how far Eagleton has come under my leadership. I know the Eagleton staff is amazing and will continue to be amazing with a new leader. 

Each one of you have made an impact on my life and I hope I have made an impact on your lives as well. I care deeply about this community and always will. Every student who has walked through the Eagleton doors is special and loved my me! That will not change with a new principal at Eagleton. Eagleton is a special place thanks to all of you.

READING AT HOME 

With only 2 months left of school, we need your help to make sure our students meet their end of year goals. Please make sure your children are reading every night at home. We are lucky to have Book Trust this year, which allows every child to select $7 worth of books to take home every month. Our kids are excited about these books and they are a great way to enjoy reading. 

CMAS TESTING- THROUGH APRIL 

Let's all encourage our students to persevere and try their best! It is a lengthy test that involves students showing their work and explaining their thinking. Make sure students get a good night's sleep and arrive at school on time to get a good breakfast before starting their day. Remember not to schedule any appointments or travel on these dates. Thank you

It was a very busy February, we want to thank you all for your support of the Eagleton community, and teachers during the DPS strike.  Our students did a great job and we were able to continue some learning during the strike.   We took some time to discuss how to advocate for yourself and stand up for what you believe in. It was a real-life educational experience.  We are back to normal and looking forward to finishing the year strong!

 

Spring break will be here before we know it and then the rest of the year seems to fly by.  We hope you are able to take some time during spring break to make some fun family memories.  Going to the park, playing games, cooking and baking together are nice ways to have a little fun during spring break.  Make sure to set limits on technology, not just during spring break, but always.  It is super important that parents are aware of everything students are doing online with so many more accessible games and apps out there.  We hope our students are building life-long habits to be happy, healthy and helpful!

DPS Literacy Aimlines

Last year, DPS developed a tool – the Early Literacy Aimline – to help educators and families better understand where their student should be performing to achieve reading proficiency by third grade. Your child's teacher has shared your child's scores on these reading assessments, along with other work or activities your child has engaged in, to help you understand your child's progress. At our assembly on Friday, we will be recognizing students who are meeting the new DPS aimline for early literacy.  You might notice less students receiving an award.  This is more representative of how we are performing as a school.

 

Just as all children do not grow physically at the same rate, we also know our students will not all develop at the same rate in reading. These reading assessments are just one way in which your child's teacher assesses student progress; they use many other tools on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.

 

Here are the literacy aimline scores expected for mid year and end of year with the updated DPS aimline:

These are numbers generated by the istation assessment and measure various aspects of literacy including:  comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, spelling and overall reading skills. 

CMAS Testing

The Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS) is the assessment used across Colorado to measure how students in 3^rd, 4^th and 5^th grade are progressing.  CMAS testing starts in the month of March. As we continue to prepare for our students to show everything they have learned so far, families and parents can help at home. 

 

First, it is important that we all encourage our students to persevere and try their best!  It is a lengthy test that involves students showing their work and explaining their thinking.  Make sure students get a good night's sleep and arrive at school on time to get a good breakfast before starting their day.

 

We will have a special pep rally for students on 3/18 in addition to a special party after testing for students who attend every day during testing and give their best effort.  Be on the lookout for more detailed information and schedules as testing dates get closer.

Febrero fue un mes muy ocupado y queremos agradecerles a todos por su apoyo a la comunidad de Eagleton y los maestros durante la huelga de DPS. Nuestros estudiantes hicieron un gran trabajo y pudimos continuar aprendiendo durante la huelga. Nos tomamos un tiempo para hablar sobre cómo abogar por uno mismo y defender lo que usted cree. Fue una experiencia educativa de la vida real. ¡Volvemos a la normalidad y esperamos terminar el año con fuerza!

 

Las vacaciones de primavera llegarán antes de que nos demos cuenta y luego el resto del año pasará volando. Esperamos que pueda tomarse un tiempo durante las vacaciones de primavera para crear recuerdos familiares divertidos. Ir al parque, jugar juegos, cocinar y hornear juntos son buenas maneras de divertirse un poco durante las vacaciones de primavera. Lectoescritura Temprana de DPS

El año pasado, DPS creó una herramienta, los objetivos de lectoescritura temprana, para ayudar a los

educadores y familias a entender mejor cuál debería ser el desempeño de su estudiante para alcanzar la meta

de competencia lectora en el 3.er grado. El maestro de su estudiante ha compartido los resultados de su

estudiante en estas evaluaciones de lectura, junto con otros trabajos o actividades que su estudiante haya

realizado, a fin de ayudarlos a comprender el progreso de su estudiante. En nuestra asamblea del viernes, reconoceremos a los estudiantes que están cumpliendo con el nuevo objetivo de DPS para la lectoescritura temprana. Podrían notar que menos estudiantes reciben un premio. Esto es más representativo de cómo nos estamos desempeñando como una escuela.

De la misma forma que los niños no crecen físicamente con la misma rapidez, sabemos que nuestros

estudiantes tampoco se desarrollarán con la misma rapidez en lectura. Estas pruebas de lectura son solo una

Exámenes de CMAS

Potential Teacher Strike

As many of you know, members of the Denver Classroom Teachers Association have voted to strike. Shortly afterward, DPS asked the state of Colorado to intervene in hopes of reaching a resolution before a strike. At this time, we are not clear when a strike will occur and understand this uncertainty is difficult for our teachers and our families. We will share any new information on Class Dojo, our app, website and through phone calls. 

• Our school will be open and operating on a regular schedule.
• School-based services will be provided, including school meals, transportation and Discovery Link before- and after-school programs.
• Please confirm your contact information is up-to-date and ensure your child's medication list is up-to-date.
• Our attendance policy on excused and unexcused absences will remain the same.

Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.  We will communicate with you directly in the event that a strike will occur. 

 Eagleton Business Partnerships

We are lucky to have been able to partner with some local businesses that are supporting our school in various ways.  El Zarape, a local restaurant, has donated coats and supplies for students in need.  Costco has made a large donation of winter coats and gear for kids.  We also have partnered with American Furniture Warehouse (AFW).  If you make a purchase at AFW, just mention Eagleton and we get a percentage of the purchase donated to Eagleton.  We are thankful for our business partnerships and encourage you to thank them with your patronage.  If you have ideas of further business partnerships, let us know!

GREAT Program for 4^th and 5^th

The Denver Police Department has created an amazing program for elementary students called GREAT- Gang Resistance Education and Training.  4^th and 5^th grade students get direct instruction about making good choices, avoiding peer pressure and having positive relationships.  We are lucky to have Officer Sandoval come and teach these classes once a week for 6 weeks.  She makes great connections with students and the program has shown success all over the city.

Potencial Huelga de Maestros

Asociaciones de Negocios con Eagleton

Programa Great Para 4^o y 5^o

El Departamento de Policía de Denver ha creado un programa increíble para estudiantes de primaria llamado GREAT-Gang Resistance Education and Training. Los estudiantes de 4º y 5º grado reciben instrucción directa sobre cómo tomar buenas decisiones, evitar la presión de los compañeros y tener relaciones positivas.
